A £1m project to refurbish a 110-year-old steel bridge which forms part of a key route into Bath is to begin.

The B3118 Midland Bridge Road will be stripped of all paint before it undergoes maintenance and is repainted.

The bridge, which was built in 1905, links the Lower Bristol Road to the Pinesway gyratory into Bath city centre at Green Park.

Bath and North East Somerset Council said the work would make sure the bridge is safe for years to come.

The authority said it would close one road lane for the duration of the works.

Full overnight closures will be required during some parts of the work, although dates have yet to be finalised.

The work is expected to be completed in the summer.
