A woman who killed her flatmate in an alcohol-fuelled row has been convicted of manslaughter but cleared of murder.

Viktorija Ratiuk stabbed 32-year-old Romualds Baluls once in the chest in the flat they shared in Bircham Road, Taunton, on 19 November.

Bristol Crown Court heard the pair were drinking together when a row erupted and Ratiuk attacked Baluls with a knife. Baluls died at the scene.

Ratiuk, 31, will be sentenced on Tuesday.

Avon and Somerset Police said: "The decision to use a knife while under the influence of alcohol was catastrophic and Ratiuk will have to suffer the consequences of her impulsive actions."

The force said it is supporting Mr Baluls's family, who live in Latvia, and has been keeping them updated on the progress of the investigation.
