Police investigating the rape of a woman walking her dog in Barnsley say they are following several new leads after a television appeal.

The 50-year-old victim was raped on the Trans Pennine trail, near Elsecar Reservoir, at lunchtime on 24 June.

The appeal on the BBC's Crimewatch programme on Tuesday featured a reconstruction of the attack.

Det Ch Insp Sean Middleton, of South Yorkshire Police, said he was "delighted" with the response.

He said: "We received an excess of 40 calls, the highest number of calls received out of all the appeals on the show yesterday.

"We are currently assessing all the information and there are definite lines of inquiries for us to peruse.

"If anyone has further information about this incident, please don't hesitate to contact us."
