Man dies after becoming trapped by vehicles on M18

A man has died after becoming trapped between two vehicles on an M18 slip road in South Yorkshire.

Police said a breakdown vehicle had rolled backwards into a van, causing the man to become trapped between the van and second breakdown vehicle.

The 53-year-old, from Glasgow, who was a passenger in the second vehicle, suffered multiple injuries and later died. Two other men were hurt.

The incident was off the northbound carriageway at 0140 GMT on Tuesday.

'Snow in area'

The driver of the second breakdown vehicle, a 52-year-old man from Derby, was also trapped. He was taken to Doncaster Royal Infirmary with leg injuries and later released.

The driver of the first breakdown vehicle, a 60-year-old man from Ayrshire, suffered slight minor leg, back and hip injuries. He was taken to the same hospital and later released.

A police spokesman said there had been snow in the area at the time of the incident.

She added that the weather conditions would form part of the force's accident investigation, as was routine in such cases.
