No accidental fire deaths in South Yorkshire at Christmas
There were no deaths caused by accidental fires over Christmas in South Yorkshire for the first time in seven years, the fire service has said.
South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service (SYFR) attended 23 house fires in December compared to 32 in 2009.
It is the first time since 2003 there were no fatalities during December, after ten people died up until 2009.
The fire service said December was "traditionally busy" due to the "additional seasonal hazards in homes".
Steve Makepeace, from SYFR, said: "It is extremely encouraging, but the risk of fire in the home is an all year round issue, and I hope that people will continue to heed our safety advice."
