Fire crews tackling a blaze at a derelict school in South Yorkshire could not enter the building because they feared it might collapse.

The former science block at Darton High School, on Churchfield Lane, Kexborough, was declared unsafe by a structural engineer.

Fire crews from several stations were tackling the flames at the building which was undergoing demolition work.

An aerial ladder was used to quell the flames from above ground level.

It is not known how the fire started.
