Grove Environmental fined over Mexborough site waste
A waste recycling company has been fined £20,000 after a court heard employees were put at risk by hazardous substances being stored illegally.
Inspectors said they found dangerous stockpiles of asbestos at Grove Environmental on Whitelea Grove Trading Estate, Mexborough, in 2008 and 2009.
Pools of oil harmful to the environment were also found, Doncaster Magistrates Court heard.
The firm was ordered to pay £11,000 costs to the Environment Agency.
The company has now been restructured and the site put right, the court heard.
Environment Agency officer Lindsey Jones said: "I'm delighted that the court has recognised the seriousness of these offences and has imposed a fine which recognises the risk not only to employees, but to people who do business with the site."
