Traffic lights to relieve jams at Rotherham roundabout

Traffic lights are being switched on to control vehicles at one of Rotherham's busiest junctions.

A year-long project to improve safety and relieve congestion at Mushroom Roundabout, Dalton, has come to an end.

Pedestrian crossings now feature on all four arms of the roundabout and resurfacing work has taken place.

Rotherham council said the work would improve traffic flow and bus reliability, relieve congestion, reduce pollution and ensure pedestrian safety.

The lights will be switched on from Thursday.

Councillor Gerald Smith, cabinet member for town centres, economic growth and prosperity, said: "Motorists, bus operators and community groups have been seeking improvements at this junction for some time and it is hoped this scheme will meet these demands.

"The roundabout will now be a safer and cleaner corner of Rotherham, as well as making this route more convenient for thousands of motorists."
