An investigation has begun into what caused a pavement and wall to collapse outside a school.

Sheffield City Council said a "thorough investigation" would take place on Glossop Road near to King Edward VII School.

The council said a extended safety zone had been implemented around the affected area and traffic diverted.

First buses who operate a services on the road said it would be diverting its services.

In a joint statement from the Council and VINCI Construction UK said that until the investigation was complete "it is difficult to estimate with any accuracy the time it may take to carry out the required repairs".

It added that the council and Vinci Construction UK were working to ensure this work was carried out as "quickly and safely as practicably possible to minimise any further disruption".

The wall and pavement collapsed close to a bus stop at about 13:45 BST on Tuesday.
