Sheffield school closes after sexual assault claim
A school in Sheffield will be closed on Tuesday after an allegation of a serious sexual assault on a pupil.
A person has been arrested, questioned and released on police bail in connection with the alleged assault at Greenlands Nursery Infant School.
Council officials and police met parents at the school on Monday evening.
The meeting was attended by about 250 parents, some of whom had to wait outside as the school's hall was full.
Sheffield City Council's director of Children and Young People's Services, Dr Sonia Sharp, said: It's an incredibly distressing thing for both parents and staff in the school."
In a statement South Yorkshire Police said: "Police arrested a person in connection with this matter, who has since been questioned and released on police bail pending further enquiries.
"The Darnall and Tinsley Safer Neighbourhood Team are working with the local community to address any concerns and the investigating officers currently believe the alleged incident to be isolated."
