Barnsley lorry crash victim named as Majorie Webster

A 72-year-old Barnsley woman killed when a car was hit by a lorry has been named.

South Yorkshire Police named the victim of the crash, on Thursday, as Marjorie Webster, from Goldthorpe.

Mrs Webster's car, which had broken down, was hit by the Mercedes lorry on the A635 Barnsley Road near Doncaster.

The car overturned in the crash, at about 11:00 GMT, while the lorry, whose driver was later arrested, hit a tree.

Police said the lorry driver, a 38-year-old Barnsley man, had been detained on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

Mrs Webster was pronounced dead at the scene. Her passenger, also from Barnsley, suffered slight cuts to her face.

Police are appealing for any witnesses to contact them.
