Bottles of fake vodka and wine seized

Doncaster Council has seized more than 60 bottles of counterfeit vodka and wine after visiting 40 retailers.

Tests identified the presence of Propan-2-ol and methanol in some of the vodka, and other substances could cause nausea and vomiting or induce a coma.

Some of the fake bottles seized were using brand names such as Jacob's Creek and Glens.

Councillor Cynthia Ransome said: "I would strongly advise consumers not to drink these unregistered products."

Some of the seized bottles were labelled as "Drop" vodka. Recently fake vodka using that name was discovered by trading standards in York and found to contain chloroform, a potential carcinogen.

Drop vodka is not registered in the UK and the manufacturing source cannot be verified.
