Cantley flat fire which killed man and dog 'suspicious'

A fire at a flat in South Yorkshire which killed a man and a dog is being treated as suspicious by detectives.

Firefighters went to the property in Cantley early on Christmas Eve and found the bodies.

The man has not been formally identified but is thought to be a 40-year-old, South Yorkshire Police said.

They added: "The incident is being treated as suspicious with officers keeping an open mind about the circumstances of the man's death."

Searches and forensic work are continuing at the property in Callender Court, on Middleham Road.

Detectives have asked anyone with information to contact them.
