A teenager has been arrested on suspicion of murdering a man at a New Year's Eve party in Sheffield.

Father-of-two Joshua Green is believed to have been stabbed while on the dance floor at the Stars and Mayfair Suite, in Queens Road, at about 02:45 GMT on 1 January.

South Yorkshire Police said they believed the 27-year-old was wounded during a confrontation.

A 19-year-old man has been arrested and will be questioned by detectives.

People who were at the club on New Year's Eve are urged to contact police.

Det Supt Andy Thompson said: "We've had a good response from members of the public who were present that night, but we've still not been contacted by all 400 partygoers.

"I'd appeal for people in the club on New Year's Eve to contact the police in confidence so that we can eliminate them from our inquiry.

"Two other people, a man and a woman, were also injured in the club that night. We need to identify witnesses to the assaults so that we can try to establish a sequence of events."

The police are investigating whether the injuries the man and woman sustained are connected to the murder investigation.
