Bawtry street attack: Man arrested in attempted murder probe

A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder over a New Year's Day assault in South Yorkshire which left a man critically ill in hospital.

Iain Eldridge, 35, suffered a severe head injury in the attack on Station Road, Bawtry, Doncaster, at 00:40 GMT.

South Yorkshire Police said a 21-year-old man had been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and was being questioned by detectives.

Officers have urged witnesses to the incident to come forward.
