Man remanded over New Year's Day Bawtry pub attack

A 21-year-old man has appeared before magistrates charged in connection with an attack on New Year's Day which left a man critically ill in hospital.

Iain Eldridge, 35, suffered a severe head injury in the attack outside the Penny Farthing pub in Bawtry, Doncaster at 00:40 GMT.

Paul Oakden from Kingswood Close, Bawtry has been charged grievous bodily harm.

He was remanded in custody to reappear before magistrates on 17 January.

Mr Eldridge, from Auckley, was taken to Doncaster Royal Infirmary on New Year's Day but later transferred to Sheffield's Royal Hallamshire Hospital where police said he remained in a critical condition.
