The mother of a man who was killed in an incident at a nightclub on New Year's Day has pleaded for information about his death.

Father-of-two Joshua Green, 27, died at a party at the Stars Suite on Queens Road in Sheffield.

Mr Green's mother Sarah Thompson said "no-one deserved to die in this way" and urged witnesses to come forward.

Two men were previously arrested and bailed in connection with his death. Police are treating it as murder.

Ms Thompson said: "I ask that if anyone saw Josh that night or saw what happened to him in the club that they come forward to the police and help.

"Josh was a father of two beautiful little children, he was a wonderful dad and loved his children dearly; they are now left fatherless.

"Josh was a good brother and a kind son, everyone loved him, he had such a happy personality, always laughing and joking, I miss his smiling face.

"During this last year, Josh seemed to settle down and mature, he had decided to apply to university to study IT and do something with his life, for his children."

'Cruel way'

South Yorkshire Police were called to the scene of the nightclub at about 02:45 GMT on 1 January following reports of an incident there.

Ms Thompson said her son had lost his life "in a cruel way whilst he was out enjoying himself and celebrating".

She added: "No-one deserves to die in this way, so if anyone has any information please, I ask of you, speak with the police whether in confidence or as a witness and help us get justice for Josh."

Police previously released a picture of Mr Green wearing the clothes he went out wearing that night.

Det Supt Andy Thompson said: "The investigation team has spoken to numerous people but we're still aware that many others have not come forward.
