Probe after horse dumped and left to die near Thurnscoe
A horse was dumped and left to die on a footpath in South Yorkshire.
RSPCA inspectors are investigating after the animal was found by a member of the public in woods in Clayton near Thurnscoe last Thursday.
The RSPCA said it was thought to have been alive when it was dumped but had died by the time officers arrived.
A spokeswoman said the charity had seen a number of similar incidents in South Yorkshire, particularly in the Doncaster area, in recent months.
She said: "We believe this poor animal has been dumped out of the back of a truck or van to die, probably because the owners didn't want to pay for a vet to treat it or the knackerman to dispose of it."
The spokeswoman urged anyone with information to contact them or police.
