Binmen hit by car in Sheffield

Two refuse collectors have been hit by a car in Sheffield, leaving one of them with life-threatening injuries.

The 50-year-old man suffered injuries to his head, neck, chest and leg. The second worker, aged 55, has a broken shoulder and ribs.

The workers were on Beaver Hill Road in Woodhouse on Thursday when a black Volkswagen Golf mounted the curb.

A 26-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving.

South Yorkshire Police are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the incident, which happened at 08:25 GMT.
