Police investigating the disappearance of a 13-year-old boy have found a body in a ditch in Doncaster.

Officers said the body was found near The Boulevard, Edenthorpe and was being linked to missing Lewis Eddleston.

The teenager was last seen with friends on Sunday at a playing field in Edenthorpe at about 16:00 GMT.

The force said it was "too early to determine a cause of death or confirm the identity of the male" but that Lewis' family had been informed.

A post-mortem examination was being held on Wednesday evening, said South Yorkshire Police, with a formal identification expected on Thursday.

The circumstances behind the death are being investigated. A field in Edenthorpe remains cordoned off.
