Sheffield shoppers urged to sign protest petition
Christmas shoppers in Sheffield are being asked to sign a petition against cuts to children's services in the city.
Sheffield City Council has announced a reorganisation of the authority's 36 Sure Start children's centres in a bid to save £3.5m.
The council said the decision would not lead to any centres closing, but could lead to the loss of up to 50 jobs.
The petition has been organised by Sheffield Uncut.
The group, which campaigns against cuts in public services, said it was hoping to get 5,000 signatures to trigger a full council debate on the issue.
Last week, parents and staff from the centres protested outside Sheffield Town Hall when councillors discussed the plans at a cabinet meeting.
