Sheffield man held over tortured dog's death

A man has been arrested over the death of a dog which was badly beaten, tied to a tree and set alight.

The Staffordshire bull terrier's body was found on a path off Manor Laith in Sheffield on Sunday.

South Yorkshire Police and the RSPCA previously said the dog would have suffered a painful death and appealed for information.

A 28-year-old Sheffield man has been arrested on suspicion of causing unnecessary suffering to an animal.

A police spokesman said the man had been bailed while inquiries continue.
