Doncaster man arrested over A1 motorway death

A 26-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving after a man was killed on the A1 motorway in South Yorkshire.

The 28-year-old victim, from Doncaster, is thought to have been a passenger in a Ford Mondeo which left the northbound carriageway between junctions 35 and 36 at about 1:40 BST on Sunday.

He was fatally wounded when the car went down an embankment and hit a tree.

Police said the driver of the Mondeo left the scene before officers arrived.

A man from Doncaster was arrested later on Sunday.

South Yorkshire Police has asked anyone with information to come forward.
