Daniel Hancock named as second Barnsley crash victim

A man who died after the car he was travelling in crashed into a house in Barnsley has been named by police as Daniel Lea Hancock.

Mr Hancock, 25, from Grimethorpe, died in hospital on Wednesday after being seriously injured in the incident on Engine Lane, Shafton, early on Sunday.

Another occupant of the car, Josh Powell, 18, of Park Avenue in Grimethorpe, died at the scene.

It remains unclear who was driving the car, said South Yorkshire Police.

The two men are thought to have been the sole occupants of the silver Peugeot 306 convertible.

Police believe the car was speeding when it hit a street lamp and smashed through the garden into the front of a house causing extensive damage.

Anyone with information about the crash is being asked to contact police.
