Barnsley pensioner killed in collision with Mercedes

An elderly woman has been killed in a collision with a Mercedes van as she crossed the road.

The 71-year-old from Barnsley was crossing Hough Lane in Wombwell shortly before 10:00 BST when she was hit, South Yorkshire Police said.

The Mercedes Vito, driven by a 28-year-old Barnsley man, is believed to have been turning left onto the road at the time. The driver was not hurt.

Police have asked witnesses to the collision to come forward.
