Woman in Barnsley injured by reversing police car

An 87-year-old pedestrian was injured when she was hit by a police car in a supermarket car park in Barnsley.

The woman was taken to hospital with a broken rib and hand injuries, South Yorkshire Police said.

The force said the car was thought to have been reversing out of a parking bay at the Costcutter on Spark Lane, Mapplewell, when the woman was hurt at 11:50 BST on Wednesday.

Witnesses are being asked to come forward.
