Cyclist dies in Sheffield car crash

A cyclist has died after being seriously injured in a crash with a car in Sheffield.

The 55-year-old man was in a crash with a black Vauxhall Astra on Whirlowdale Road, near the junction with Abbey Lane, at about 08:00 GMT on Sunday.

He was taken to hospital where he later died, said South Yorkshire Police.

The driver of the car, a 26-year-old woman, has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. Police have appealed for witnesses.

Detectives are especially keen to speak to the driver of another vehicle who is believed to have briefly stopped at the scene of the crash.
