Man hurt after baseball bat attack in Sheffield home

A 66-year-old man is in hospital with serious injuries after being attacked in his home by a gang of men armed with hammers and a baseball bat.

Three men went to the victim's house on Sheffield Road in the Woodhouse area of Sheffield on Thursday night.

Police said the man was hit over the head with a baseball bat and kicked in the face.

Detectives said it was unclear whether anything had been stolen and have appealed for witnesses.

Det Con Steve Robinson said the motive for the attack was unknown.

He said: "This was a particularly nasty assault on an elderly man."
