Rotherham's four waste tips to close for a day a week

Four household waste recycling centres in Rotherham are to each close one day a week to save cash.

The council's cabinet has decided that centres at Car Hill, Lidget Lane, Magilla and Warren Vale will all close for one day between Tuesday and Friday.

The day of closure for each centre has not yet been decided. All four are to stay open at weekends and on Mondays.

Losing four days of operation would save about £26,000 in 2014-5 and two posts would be lost, the council said.

The new arrangements are due to run initially from April to September to assess the level of money saved.

Officials said partial closure would avoid the need to permanently close one of the centres.

The original proposal was to close two centres for two days a week.
