Sheffield deaths 'could be linked' to heroin batch

A rogue batch of heroin could be behind the deaths of three people in Sheffield inside a week, police fear.

A 36-year-old woman from Gleadless and a Sharrow man, 47, were found dead at their homes on Thursday evening, South Yorkshire Police said.

It follows the death of a 54-year-old man at his home in the city centre in the early hours of Sunday.

Supt Colin McFarlane said all three died from suspected drug overdoses which could be linked.

Mr McFarlane said: "It is entirely possible that these deaths are a tragic coincidence.

"However, we cannot rule out the possibility that these deaths may be linked to the same batch of heroin or to users mixing different drugs.

"I would urge drug users to be especially vigilant and, if they experience any unusual symptoms after taking drugs, to go immediately to hospital for treatment."
