A prisoner who went on the run from an open prison nearly a month ago has handed himself in.

Ian Stirzaker, 35, did not return to HMP Hatfield near Doncaster on 10 August following day release.

He went to a police station in his home city of Bradford on Thursday and has been returned to a closed prison in Leeds, South Yorkshire Police said.

Stirzaker was sentenced to 90 months in prison for causing grievous bodily harm in July 2011.

Another Hatfield prisoner, John Byrne, has still not been found after leaving the prison on day release on 2 August.
