Two boys arrested over Sheffield school assault
Two 15-year-old boys have been arrested on suspicion of assaulting two 14-year-olds at a school in Sheffield.
The arrests were made in connection with an incident at Hinde House School, in Wincobank, on Thursday.
They were also arrested on suspicion of committing public order offences. Both boys have been released on police bail.
The arrests come after parents called for action at the school following an attack on a pupil which left the boy in need of hospital treatment.
Rhys Larkins, 14, suffered injuries to his eyes and nose after being assaulted at the school on Thursday.
An 1,867-signature petition, which claims that Roma-Slovak "intimidation, violence and gang-like culture" is "rife", was handed in to the school earlier.
Speaking on Monday, school principal Chris French said two pupils had been assaulted at break time on Thursday. He said: "They were quickly given first aid and one subsequently went to hospital."
He added: "We always take the safety and welfare of our pupils extremely seriously and note that incidents such as this are extremely rare."
South Yorkshire Police has declined to say whether the two arrested boys were questioned over any alleged attack on Rhys Larkins.
