Dozens lose jobs at 150-year-old Fox Wire

A 170-year-old South Yorkshire wire manufacturing company has gone into administration with the loss of 40 jobs.

Fox Wire, based at Stocksbridge, Sheffield is being wound down by administrators P&A Partnership Ltd.

The administrators said that "directors and financial advisors have in recent months attempted to obtain new finance to support the business".

P&A said the efforts to bring in new finance had been "to no avail".

The company traces its roots back to 1842 and was until recently the UK's largest maker of engineering wiring.

No representatives of the workforce were available for comment.
