Three bailed over child abuse in Rotherham and Sheffield

Three men arrested on suspicion of sexually abusing underage girls in Rotherham and Sheffield between 2005 and 2009 have been released on bail.

The men, aged 21, 23 and 28, were arrested on Wednesday.

The 28-year-old and 23-year-old were arrested in the Hackenthorpe and Arbourthorne areas of Sheffield. The 21-year-old was arrested in Leeds.

South Yorkshire Police said all three have now been released on bail pending further enquiries.

At least 1,400 children were subjected to appalling sexual exploitation in Rotherham between 1997 and 2013, a report published in August found.

Children as young as 11 were raped by multiple perpetrators, abducted, trafficked to other English cities, beaten and intimidated, the Jay report said.
