Thieves who broke into a discount store have been urged to seek medical advice after officers found significant amounts of asbestos in the building.

Two drills were taken during the break-in at the Original Factory Shop, in Maltby, which happened between 17:00 BST on Tuesday and 09:00 the next day.

South Yorkshire Police said the stolen drills were "believed to be contaminated with asbestos".

Sgt Sharon Hulley said the substance "can have a significant health impact".

She said: "If you are now in possession of the stolen property, please do not touch it."

She said contractors were working to decontaminate the building and reassured the public there was no risk to passers-by.
