Man jailed for 'violent' murder of former partner

A man has been jailed for life for killing his former partner in a prolonged attack that left her with more than 90 injuries.

The body of Lucy Jones, 35, was found after police were called to a house in West Street, Goldthorpe, near Barnsley, on 8 October.

Liam Fletcher, 30, of Elizabeth Street, Goldthorpe, was found guilty of murder.

He was sentenced at Sheffield Crown Court on Thursday and will serve a minimum of 20 years in prison.

Speaking after the verdict, Det Ch Insp Steve Ashmore said: "Miss Jones was subjected to a violent and sustained attack at the hands of an individual who has shown no remorse for his crimes.

"Fletcher continued to deny his guilt and the strength of evidence collected throughout our investigation and put before a jury has resulted in his successful conviction."
