Man who died after Barnsley brawl named as Shaun Ian Mason

A man who died after a brawl in Barnsley has been named by police.

Shaun Ian Mason, 42, suffered a serious head injury after reports of a fight between a group of men and women outside a property on Genn Lane, in Worsbrough, on Saturday night.

He was taken to hospital but died the next day, South Yorkshire Police said.

Two men, aged 40 and 27, were arrested on suspicion of assault and have been bailed while police inquiries continue.

Det Ch Insp Steve Whittaker said a post-mortem examination revealed Mr Mason had died "as a result of a head injury".

"We have a team of officers working to establish the exact circumstances surrounding his death and we are continuing to support his family.

"We remain keen to hear from anyone who was in the area on Saturday evening and who knows anything about what happened."
