£1m grant for disadvantaged areas of Stoke-on-Trent
Disadvantaged areas of Stoke-on-Trent have been given £1m of lottery money for residents to decide how it should be spent.
The Big Lottery Fund cash will be shared between Great Chell, Fegg Hayes and Chell Heath.
Criteria for the money included areas where a large proportion of the population earn less than £15,000 per year.
A council spokesman said those areas have not seen investment in the past.
The Big Lottery will now allow tenders for a charitable trust to run the project.
Jim Gibson, chairman of the Chell Heath Residents' Association said it was about time peripheral estates, particularly in the north of Stoke-on-Trent, got some attention.
