Armed police swoop after Essington threats

A security guard has been threatened by a man armed with what has been described as a machete or samurai sword in a south Staffordshire village.

Armed officers and the police helicopter were sent to Essington during the incident at 0530 BST.

Long Lane was closed both ways between the A34 Stafford Road and New Landywood Lane but has since reopened.

The incident took place at a building site. Police said they have not found the man involved.

Officers are continuing inquiries, police said.
