Bridge work starts on Staffordshire West Coast line

Work has started to strengthen a bridge over one of the busiest railway lines in England.

The bridge spans the West Coast rail line and is close to Izaak Walton's Cottage in Worston Lane, Shallowford, Staffordshire.

It will be reinforced with steel and given a waterproof decking layer. Network Rail engineers expect the work will last until Christmas.

The bridge has been closed and traffic is being diverted via Stafford Road.
