More salt ordered for Stoke-on-Trent roads

Extra salt is being ordered for roads around Stoke-on-Trent.

A review panel has recommended the council buys an extra 2,195 tonnes of gritting salt - taking its stock to 5,000 tonnes.

A report to the council said last winter 4,127 tonnes of salt were used - however, this was when supplies were being "rationed" to make them last.

The report added that the winter of 2009/10 had the worst recorded weather conditions for 31 years.

The council will spend about £75,000 on the extra salt.
