Heavy rain causes flash flooding in Silverdale

Heavy rain has caused flash flooding in parts of Staffordshire.

The main road into Silverdale was closed for several hours due to water pouring down Church Street. It is believed a pumping station failed.

Fire crews diverted the water away from people's homes but several houses were affected.

The council said it was keeping in contact with the emergency services after small-scale localised floods had been reported.

"We are keeping in close contact with the emergency services so we can react to any major floods although none have so far been reported, although there are many small-scale localised floods," a spokesman for Staffordshire County Council said.

"We are currently on site in Silverdale with Severn Trent where it is believed pumping equipment may have failed. We will assist residents in any way possible."
