Girls injured sledging on mattress in Staffordshire

Two teenage girls have been taken to hospital after injuring themselves in a sledging accident in Stafford.

The ambulance service said one girl was thought to have broken her pelvis and the other hurt her back and head.

They are thought to have used a plastic-wrapped mattress to go down a slope in Wildwood Park, but hit a tree.

The Staffordshire Moorlands area has been particularly affected by snow. The county council said some areas had 16.5cm (6.5in) of drifting snow.

More than 30 schools in the county will be closed on Thursday.

The Met Office has also put out a warning for Staffordshire saying icy stretches will form on untreated surfaces, also where snow has already fallen and where melted snow re-freezes.
