A man whose body was found at his home in Stoke-on-Trent has been named, while police have been given more time to question four people over his death.

William Anderson, 38, was found at Chorlton Road in Birches Head late on Sunday evening, police said.

Detectives now have until Wednesday night to question a woman aged 23, and two men and a second woman, all 42.

The results from a post-mortem examination led police to open a murder inquiry, a spokesman said.

A police presence remained at Mr Anderson's address on Tuesday and officers have also been carrying out work at an address in Boulton Street in connection with the inquiry, a spokesman said.

Insp Martin Brereton said: "Our thoughts are with Mr Anderson's family and friends at this difficult time.

"Detectives are pursuing several lines of inquiry as part of a detailed investigation and I would urge anyone with information who has not yet come forward to do so."
