Plans to shut Stoke-on-Trent school site this summer

Plans to close a school site two years earlier than scheduled have been revealed.

The Box Lane site of Sandon Business and Enterprise College, Stoke-on-Trent, was due to shut in 2013, but there are now proposals to close it this summer.

The city council said falling pupil numbers and the poor state of buildings were partly to blame for the closure of the site.

A consultation open to parents and carers will end on 18 March.

About 60 students at Box Lane can go to the main site on Sandon Road after the summer break, the city council said.

After the consultation has ended, governors from the school will meet council officers to consider the findings and make a final decision.

There were proposals to close the site at the end of the summer term partly due to pressure on the school's budget, the council added.

It said following detailed examination of the classrooms and facilities it was proposed to close the site early "in the best interests of both pupils and staff".
