Shopping trolley thrown on to railway line at Kidsgrove

A shopping trolley thrown on to railway tracks in Staffordshire caused significant damage to a passing train.

The train was taken out of service leaving delays and cancellations for passengers for the rest of the day, British Transport Police said.

The incident took place during Tuesday morning at Bathpool Park, Kidsgrove, on the line between Manchester and Stoke-on-Trent.

Police said it was lucky the damage was not more significant.
