A 47-year-old man from Stoke-on-Trent has been jailed for nine years for killing his partner.

Grandmother Kerry Ann Day, 41, was stabbed at her home in Astbury Court, Westport Road, in Burslem, Stoke-on-Trent, on 25 April 2010.

Anthony Lawton, also from Astbury Court, was cleared of murder on 10 March but had previously pleaded guilty to manslaughter.

He was sentenced at Birmingham Crown Court earlier.

Speaking after the trial in March, Det Ch Insp Guy Titchener, of Staffordshire Police, said Ms Day and Lawton had a "volatile relationship" with a history of domestic abuse between the pair.

He said the couple had been drinking on the day of her death and it appeared an argument escalated and he stabbed her in the chest.
