Business leaders enterprise hope for North Staffordshire

Business leaders are hoping North Staffordshire will be designated as an enterprise zone when more are created later this year.

The area missed out when enterprise zones, such as Manchester Airport, were created in March's budget.

Stoke-on-Trent North MP Joan Walley has asked in the House of Commons for similar investment for her constituency.

Mike Herbert, president of the area's chamber has backed her call.

He said there had been a great deal of disappointment among the business community when the initial list of enterprise zones was announced.

"Clearly, the government has said they consider this an area to be in need of a good deal of assistance and therefore an enterprise zone is, I think, an obvious choice," he said.

Enterprise zones benefit from business rate discounts, simplified planning and access to superfast broadband.
