Cutting equipment thieves start Stoke store fire

Thieves using cutting equipment started a fire at a Staffordshire supermarket as they tried to get into a cash machine.

At least three men got into the Tesco Express store in Stoke-on-Trent through the roof, Staffordshire Police said.

The offenders, wearing hoods and balaclavas, fled the scene on Amison Street, Meir Hay, in a vehicle parked near the store.

They were on site for several hours after disabling the alarm, police said.
