Skatepark plan for Burton sparks fundraising bids

Plans have been announced to build a new skatepark in Staffordshire.

Staffordshire police are working with East Staffordshire Borough Council, businesses and youths to raise money for a new skatepark in Burton.

The skatepark is to be called "Washlands Plaza" and will be built between the Meadowside Leisure Centre and library.

A police spokesman said it was expected to cost in the region of £140,000 to complete the park.

'Positive activities'

On 25 June police officers and young people will carry out a litter pick around the site.

Star Foundations Rags2Riches recycling campaign, which is collecting items to raise money for the park, will also be on hand to receive any donations of clothing, accessories, books, CDs and DVDs.

The parish council and Holy Trinity School have also donated to the scheme.

Police community support officer Dean Munro said: "The skatepark is designed to involve young people in positive activities."
